Mercedes Service A Service B

If you own a Mercedes-Benz, your dashboard tracks maintenance through the ASSYST or Flexible Service System and prompts you for "Service A" or "Service B." Many owners aren't sure what these include or why they cost what they do. Here's a clear breakdown.
What Service A covers
Service A is the first scheduled maintenance, typically due around 10,000 miles or one year, then alternating thereafter. It generally includes:
- Synthetic motor oil and oil filter replacement
- A multi-point inspection
- Tire inflation check and correction
- Fluid level checks and top-offs
- Brake component inspection
- Resetting the maintenance counter
What Service B covers
Service B is the more comprehensive visit, generally due around 20,000 miles or two years, then alternating. In addition to everything in Service A, it typically adds:
- Cabin (dust/combination) filter replacement
- Brake fluid exchange
- A more thorough inspection of belts, hoses, and components
The exact contents vary by model and model year, which is why a technician who knows the Mercedes service system matters.
Why the maintenance counter matters
Mercedes intervals aren't arbitrary — skipping or stretching them is how small issues compound. Old brake fluid absorbs moisture and lowers its boiling point, which affects braking under heat. A clogged cabin filter strains the climate system. Staying on schedule is the cheapest insurance you can buy for a luxury vehicle.
